Clothed with Dignity
Our phenomenal volunteers, Debby and Emily, recently tackled a huge project for us. In January, they volunteered a combined total of 112 hours to transform a once cluttered basement into a space that meet the needs of the families served at Friendship Home. Their hard work will make it easy for families to find exactly what they need; with the dignity they deserve.
This project, “The Basement Boutique,” was designed to be a space where survivors, and their children, being served by Friendship Home can pick out new and gently used items that meet their needs during this time in their lives. The items range from clothing of all different sizes to school supplies for the youngest survivors to make up for mom. Having a designated area to serve families in this capacity will make it easier to get survivors the things they need while rebuilding their lives—free from violence.
A lot of time, vision, and passion went into making the “The Basement Boutique” an organized and safe space for survivors. The quote on the wall reads, “She is clothed in strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” We truly hope these items and this space will give survivors the peace of mind they need as they navigate their journey.
The project would not have been possible without Debby and Emily. Debby has been a volunteer with Friendship Home for the past 18 years, and in 2017 Emily joined her! They primary serve as Welcome Home volunteers, as they decorate almost every room or apartment at Friendship Home for the families we serve. They are always up to help with any project we throw at them like organizing all the gifts we receive during the holiday seasons and so much more. We are so grateful to have Debby and Emily as a part of the Friendship Home team!
At this time, we are only taking clothing, and all other items, on an as needed basis. If you have any questions regarding our current needs, please call our donation line at 402-437-9301.
