Give to Lincoln Day is one of the most impactful moments of community giving each year, and for donors age 70½ and older, there is a powerful and tax-efficient way to participate: giving through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA.
A QCD allows you to transfer funds directly from your IRA to a qualified nonprofit like Friendship Home. Because the gift goes directly to the organization, it is not counted as taxable income and may also count toward your required minimum distribution. This makes it a meaningful way to support survivors of domestic violence while also maximizing your financial planning benefits.
To give through your IRA during Give to Lincoln Day, donors begin by contacting their IRA administrator and requesting a Qualified Charitable Distribution. The check should be issued to the Lincoln Community Foundation with Friendship Home designated as the recipient nonprofit. The Lincoln Community Foundation provides the necessary form to ensure the gift is properly recorded for the campaign.
Once completed and received by the deadline (Friday, May 15), your IRA gift becomes part of Give to Lincoln Day and is eligible for community matching funds, meaning your impact goes even further.
At Friendship Home, these gifts directly support emergency shelter, crisis response, advocacy, and essential services for survivors of domestic violence and their children. In 2025 alone, we served 2,772 survivors, provided nearly 60,000 bed nights, and delivered more than 52,000 meals to individuals in crisis.
IRA giving transforms retirement assets into immediate safety and support for people who need it most.
If you would like to make a QCD to support Friendship Home during this year’s Give to Lincoln Day, please follow these steps:
- Decide the total amount you wish to donate with your IRA QCD for Give to Lincoln Day.
- Contact your IRA administrator to request a check for this amount from your IRA as a QCD. Checks must be made payable and mailed to: Lincoln Community Foundation. Lincoln Community Foundation

Your donations should equal the total amount of your QCD check. Please note there is a $100 minimum donation per organization.
