Bridging the Gap for Survivors

In the first quarter of 2025, our state was shaken by the loss of nine lives to intimate partner violence, two within the Lincoln community. These tragic deaths are a heartbreaking reminder of how urgent the need is to support survivors of domestic violence—not just in moments of crisis, but every day.

At Friendship Home, we’ve seen the reality of this crisis reflected in the rising number of people reaching out for help.

  • In 2024, we provided emergency shelter and/or supportive services to 1,815 survivors, an 8.4% increase from the previous year, and a more than 30% increase since 2021.
  • This year, the demand is climbing even faster. Between January and March 2025, 105 survivors requested emergency shelter, compared to 59 during the same time last year—a nearly 80% increase.
  • We were thankful for the support with a short-term project funded by the City and County, which provided temporary hotel or motel stays for survivors when our shelter was full and also assist other community partners.  During the project, 44 adult survivors and 50 children received 1,318 services.

These numbers tell a powerful story: Survivors are reaching out more— and in greater numbers — than ever before.

Beyond shelter, our non-residential services remained a critical lifeline in 2024, with 582 survivors accessing essential support; safety planning, advocacy, counseling, and community referrals. We delivered 2,708 more services and logged 2,445 more service hours than the previous year. And with a surge in requests in early 2025, we anticipate this upward trend will continue.

This is a pivotal moment. Behind every statistic is a person: someone who deserves to feel safe, supported, and seen.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Donate – Every gift helps provide emergency shelter, advocacy, and hope.
  • Spread the word – Share our mission with your network.
  • Volunteer – Lend your time and skills to support survivors.

Together, we can make sure no call for help goes unanswered.
